Research Paper Topics on Cold War Africa

Research Paper Topics on Cold War AfricaOne of the most difficult and interesting topics to write about in a research paper is Russia's attitudes towards Africa and its place in Eurasia. It is much more complex than one might think and an advanced degree in Anthropology is not the prerequisite for writing a good paper. This article briefly introduces the key issues of the matter. In the early twentieth century, Africa was a very important factor in the expansion of the Soviet Union. The Cold War was also raging and this gave Russia a strong and sudden interest in the continent. At that time, the British Empire had long since left Africa to other powers. By placing themselves at the head of new empires, they became major power players in the political world of the continent. As has been explained, Africa had not been an important country during the nineteenth century. The major powers were European nations and they are familiar with the region, especially the areas in the vicinity of th e Sahara desert. But they had not yet established permanent trading links to the rest of the world and so did not have a clear idea of what the internal dynamics were in Africa, a country which had still been regarded as relatively backward. The creation of a nation out of whole cloth was unthinkable and the creation of a domestic 'rebellion' was also beyond the imaginings of the Europeans. This led to much resentment, particularly after the First World War when the Atlantic Charter was brought into play, despite the absence of any similar document in the East. But in the Cold War era, Africa became the main battlefield of that 'war'.In the Cold War era, Africa became the main battlefield of that 'war'. Many early Cold War African governments could not avoid the influence of the United States and this eventually became a serious problem for them. In order to counter the American presence, some African countries promoted themselves as democratic alternative states to the Americans and played a major role in propping up the 'Communist' governments. This became an invaluable experience for the Soviet Union and it forced the Americans to play a more active role in their countries. However, they could not ignore the large presence of Russians in the Third World either. Moreover, the Russian presence in the West could not be ignored because this created the first link between Africa and the North. It was in this context that the relations between the two peoples began to form. The start of the twenty-first century saw the gap between the two peoples to become larger than ever before and so did the mutual dependence on each other. This became a major factor in the establishment of the International Criminal Court and this has led to the establishment of a continental group. There are also many anti-American movements and the very fact that America and Russia are both firmly united on one continent has given them the opportunity to put an end to the Cold War.These two fa ctors have allowed Russia and Africa to establish ties based on shared interests. This has also lead to the appearance of some diplomatic ties. This has changed the face of the Continent and so has the course of history.
